Twitter Marketing - Is It A Profitable Way To Grow Your List?

By Brandon Davidson

Not so long ago, it was tough to dismiss the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools. Twitter was considered as a great new way of getting a list of people whom you could target to promote your products. Nevertheless, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these tools that were pushed at us to improve our profits? Just how good is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to see if it will actually repay your time and effort.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help folks build a huge Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to try it out. Not only did I put out money to join programs that would get me followers but I invested in a few softwares to help advertise the products I was selling. All in all, I ended up purchasing about eight different programs that would help me with all of this.

One of these programs was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the objective that some of those people would follow me in return. If anyone was not following me, I had another program that would automatically take them off my to-follow list. This would let me follow different people again to get them to follow me. Along with some other programs that are not actually worth noting, I purchased a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog.

Initially, I was genuinely happy with the end results after using the programs in combination as they really delivered on what they promised. Nonetheless, my excitement was quickly squashed when I realized that I wasn't generating any money. Every day I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter as well. Assuming that more blog posts would increase my blog traffic, I arranged for my daily blog posts to be made automatically both to my blog and to Twitter also.

The results of my Twitter marketing efforts are as follows: Utilizing this strategy over three years generated about ten thousand people following me on Twitter. You'd probably be very pleased to gain that number of followers, but there's more to come. In the same 3 year period, my Twitter account gathered more than 15,000 blog posts that had links to my affiliate offers.

And that was the only campaigning that I did for that blog, I decided not to even ping the posts to see precisely what Twitter could do for me. Precisely how 'good' it was rapidly became evident: after 3 years just two affiliate sales made me $46.74 plus a whopping $9.10 for Adsense. With only 2 - 4 visits every day coming from Twitter, maybe this is not surprising.

Even with about 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not enough to generate money marketing with Twitter. As a matter of fact, in the last 3 years I have not even pulled in good money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had invested in. Last, I cannot personally recommend using automatic software tools as a profitable method of promoting products on Twitter.
