How To Land An IT Job

By Darrel Jefferson

The best kept secret of the IT Industry, is that you don't really need to get a degree to get a job in the IT industry. All your boss cares about is if you have the skills to do the job.

Experts in the IT world agree that certifications put you in a position to take hold of the vast IT opportunities that continue to grow and expand. The majority of IT hiring managers agree that an IT certification is a fairly high priority when considering whether or not to hire someone. Clearly, being certified is important. But why a Microsoft certification?

It shows the people looking at your resume that you are everything they have been looking for. Not only do you have the ingenuity and originality necessary to create something new, but you also have the guts and the initiative to do it. Therefore proving that you are capable of doing it again, hopefully for their benefit. It also gives yourself experience, if you have yet to be given the opportunity.

Once you've decided on the best Microsoft certification for you, what is the best way to prepare for the exam?

They will not even read overly long resumes, so keep it short and to the point. Focus on your achievements and cut out anything too vague.

Everything is going to the cloud. "Cloud Computing" is a term for new distribution of computer programs and software through internet browsers instead downloading them to the hard drive of your computer. Abode did this recent with their popular Creative Suite. In the future, you will not need to download Microsoft Word software, you will be able open an internet window and open a new Excel spreadsheet or Word document.

Another skill you may need in the IT world is familiarity with information security. Data has always been a valuable and vulnerable asset to individual and companies. Information security is big and booming business. If you know how to encrypt information or to protect computers from malicious viruses, you will be a valuable asset to any company.

Do not deny any mistakes, as it looks like you are lying or covering something up. They do not want to just hire someone that is perfect, but someone that has proven to learn from their past mistakes.

Third, utilize the practice tests. Practicing what the actual test will be like, along with testing your knowledge of the material you've learned, will make a huge difference when it comes to test day. After taking a practice test, make sure to review any questions you hesitated on or missed. Engraining into your mind the answers to these uncertainties will help you on test day remember the information you need to know.

There are also those of you looking for the opportunity to build your resume, or possibly to receive your degree. You can do this through InfoCenter, stationed in Kuwait. We offer anything from IT training, Microsoft certification, Oracle courses, Cisco certification, and more. It is a sure way to land yourself an IT job down the road and give you the experience you need for your resume.
