The Different Components Of Golf Course Irrigation

By Helen Phillips

An irrigation system is becoming very useful since the sprinklers were being developed. These days, manufacturers are now offering the mixtures of the different mixtures for the purpose of maximizing the irrigation control and also on irrigating grounds. Those which are utilized mostly in the residential houses are the simplest forms of irrigation systems and these are composed of controllers in connection to valves.

However, due to the maintenance of turf that is of high quality, the complexity of these systems have been increasing. Thus, golf course irrigation systems are said to be more complex to residential uses for some reasons. These include low height for mowing, various requirements for water, and high volume for the irrigated area. The following are the different components of the system and how these are being developed.

First, central control. Due to complexity and size, the purpose of the system is to act as a network for the controllers. Among all the networks, central control is considered as the brain. Usually, it is located along with the maintenance facilities. This also serves as the control to the sprinklers in golf courses. The system is software based and is capable of monitoring the flow management, weather stations, and real time activities.

Second are the field controllers. Field controllers are sometimes called as satellites and these are often contained inside a metal box which is being mounted into a concrete footing. The central system will be sending directions towards the sub components or the field controllers and tells the sprinklers to either turn on or off. These controllers are connected to sprinklers while the central system is not.

Third, the central control for a satellite communication. When programs have been set to computers, a central control will be the one to send directions to the satellite since computers cannot be able to directly communicate with a satellite but can communicate with an interface. A interface interprets and sends instructions. The satellite communications are either two way or one way.

Fourth, weather stations and weather sensors. One advantage of this is getting the conditions in exact information than readings which are coming form the regional weather services. Some data that are collected from these weather stations are humidity, soil moisture, rainfall, and wind speed.

Evapotranspiration is one process for the total loss of the amount of water because of transpiration and of evaporation. The level is usually high specifically during hot, low humidity, or sunny seasons and low if the season is cool, high humidity, or cloudy. Irrigation process replace soil moisture during evapotranspiration.

How sensor decoders are used is the same as how these are used in valves. The sensors of soil moisture and temperature can be connected to these. In this way, the data will be downloaded into the central system.

And fifth, the storm protection. Storm protection is one very important component. In the irrigation system, the most most common damage type that may occur is a power surge that would probably result to having lightning strikes. The lightning strikes also result to having electrical surges which may be running on wires and can cause damages to sprinklers and some equipment. Storm protection systems are installed in the electrical components.
