Experience is very much valued in the employment industry that whether you're too old or too young for the job you'll be guaranteed a position. Despite the experience however, some older workers are having a hard time when it comes to getting a job. What causes this kind of problem? The resume is to blame for this problem. Format

This is simply one of those obvious things that employers see first in a resume. Traditionally, a resume format is composed of an educational background first followed by work experience then ended with the skills enumeration. This is often the kind of format for people who just graduated from college and is looking to have their first job. This can be a good format for people looking for their first job however this is not very advisable for older workers who probably already have a few jobs in the past. For older workers, it would be better have the skills enumerated on the first page and then on the second page would contain the long list of work experience, training sessions attended or seminars. The educational background will just be according to preference and if you choose to include it on the first page, you need to shorten it to just a few lines.

Don't specify dates

The dates in your resume can often be the topic of controversy. Having to specify the dates in your resume would cause doubt from your employer if you still have the skills and knowledge to match today's modern needs and requirements. As much as possible, employers want people with fresh skills and knowledge that matches today's business needs for the reason that these are more productive and efficient. Instead of having the dates on your resume for the educational background and work experiences, you can simply have the years studied or worked.

Be specific about learning new things

Despite your experience and your high level of skills you should still have the willingness to learn new things and further improve the great level of skills that you have now. The eagerness of an applicant to learn new things is something that employers are looking forward to hear. As the company grow, employers want their staff or employers to grow with them as well further enhancing their skills and knowledge. To be able to counter this problem, be sure to emphasize your desire to further learn new things as well as any recent training or seminars you've attended.

Work on your work ethic

The older generations of workers are found to have a better work ethic as compared to the younger ones. You can simply emphasize your loyalty as well as trustworthiness in working with the company and that you are there to stay.

Confidence is key

Another thing that would make your resume stand out regardless if you're an older worker or a freshie is that you should be confident in writing it. Make sure that you pick your words or content in your resume and they should express your confidence. You can specify your confidence when on the work experience part of your resume. Mention that your contributions at work and your best performances, etc.
