Different Thermoform Packaging Options

There is a huge industry dedicated to the creation of plastic packaging. Thermoforming companies produce many different types of packaging, including those used to hold our food, our medicine and thousands of products we purchase throughout the year.

As a regular consumer, it is vital for you to get a good grasp about thermoforming. In a nutshell, thermoforming is a process whereby a plastic sheet is heated to a particular temperature, and molded into a packaging shape using either vacuum molding or injection molding. The plastic sheets to be used for this process are highly malleable and extremely thin when heat is applied.

Thermoform plastics are available in many different types, and each of them can be reused and recycled. As a matter of fact, after a plastic material has been transformed into a mold, any excess plastic can be clipped, melted and molded into a new plastic sheet. The most common types of thermoplastic used in packaging include PVC, polyethylene, nylon and acrylic.

To accommodate their client's packaging needs, thermoforming companies are now creating customized thermoform and packaging trays. One of the most commonly used package type is the clamshell package. For the most part, clamshell packages are used as small bins to hold and store fruits like berries, tomatoes and cherries. Likewise, they are used to hold as well as protect USB cables, flashlights, headphones and other electronic equipment. As the name implies, these packages open much like their namesake clamshell.

Aside from the clamshell packages, the blister pack is probably the most commonly produced package type by thermoforming companies. most obvious difference between a clamshell and blister packing is that they clamshell is capable of folding itself. There are a lot of different products that are using blister packages. These packages often consist of foil and plastic, and these types of packages are commonly used for storing individual pills such as cold medicine tablets. Apart from medicines, these packages are used in holding toothbrushes, batteries, pens and other commercial products as well.

There are many other products that a thermoforming company can make for clients, such as plastic trays or food storage containers.
