COPE: The Next Evolution Of Enterprise Mobility?

The creation of COPE (Company Owned, Personally Enabled) could be the answer for your business, if the goal is to reduce wireless spending. This program was born from the desire of being able to keep work information secure on a personal wireless device.

The COPE program has benefits for both the corporation and the employee, a win/win situation for all. Giving the corporation the control of the device (since they own it) resolves the security question. Granting the employee personal use, gives the employee incentive to join the program. The employee chooses a wireless device from the approved from list, and the company can rest assure that their information is secure and controlled by them.

COPE offers all the cost benefits of BYOD, while still keeping things safe and secure. Once preferred devices are selected, employees can choose the one they want from the list. Companies can even set a cost threshold so that employees can opt for an upgraded device as long as they are willing to pay any amount over that threshold. Usage costs can also be predetermined in the policy, so that the employee is responsible for overages. These cost thresholds enable the company to manage costs and avoid overpaying, while still offering the variety devices and plans that employees want.

The cost and security controls available to companies via COPE, could be the answer to helping manage wireless costs. Not forgetting that employees, who get to enjoy a device of their choosing and extra IT support, also win in this scenario one can see why many companies are tuning to COPE.
