The False Claims Act, As Told By Whistleblowers Against Fraud

By Paula Hess

Fraud is a serious matter, to say the least, but there are methods set in place for the purpose of protecting us. After all, not everyone knows as much about law as the proper authorities, so it's comforting to know that we aren't without help. One of the best illustrations of this, in my view, has got to be the False Claims Act. For those who may not be as familiar with what this entails, I am sure that Whistleblowers Against Fraud can give you a rundown on the matter.

In simplest terms, the False Claims Act is a law that was set in place for the purpose of holding those, involved in fraud, responsible for hose actions. As you can imagine, there are a number of fields where this has been integrated, including but not limited to government spending. The fact that the False Claims Act has been able to recover billions upon billions of dollars is another talking point that cannot go overlooked. Another point not to overlook is the origin of the act in question.

The False Claims Act, back in 1863, was brought to the forefront by President Abraham Lincoln. What the act in question was designed to do, during this time, was respond to government contractors that might have been linked to fraud in some way or another. Because of the impact that Lincoln had on the matter, the act in question was given the alternative name of "Lincoln's Law." After that, the act has been brought into effect by a number of companies, Whistleblowers Against Fraud included.

In fact, you can be certain that authorities like W.A.F. have been able to utilize this in the past. In fact, it should be noted that Whistleblowers Against Fraud can actually recover any given reward within the range of 15 to 30% of the government's recovery. It's an interesting point to make and I believe it shows just how far the False Claims Act has come since the late 1800s. There is so much detail that goes into the act in question. As a result, only those who are knowledgeable about fraud can tell you about its extent.

With the right amount of research, I have to believe that more attention can be brought to the False Claims Act in the long term. This piece has only gone over some of the smallest bullet points associated with the topic at hand. What if you are the victim of fraud and you want to be able to handle it in the best of ways? You're going to want to consult a specialist and you can be certain that he or she will be able to work with the False Claims Act in mind.
