The Public Relations Do's & Don'ts, With Christina Kelly

By Rebecca Mills

Anyone who is familiar with public relations work can tell you that it can be done in a number of ways. Both positive and negative elements should be recognized, which Christina Kelly and other PR enthusiasts can provide assistance with. There are right and wrong ways for this work to be carried out, which is where a learning experience can come prove useful. Make note of the following do's and don'ts, for the sake of your own efforts.

DO focus on writing content. The first thing to know about public relations - and the likes of Christina Kelly will tell you the same - is that content matters. You should make it a point to produce as much as you can, as long as it's engaging for the audience it's designed for. Otherwise, you run the risk of losing said audience, thereby hindering your effectiveness on the PR front. This is just one of many rules you should follow.

DON'T overlook the importance of connections. Another thing to know about public relations is that social media plays into it rather well. If you're someone who's looking to improve upon their PR work, consider the importance of Facebook, Twitter, and other channels that are designed for networking. By reaching out and connecting to others, you expand your social circle. As a result, you stand the chance of benefiting from more effective PR.

DO keep video inclusion in mind. Another thing to consider is video, and how it can play into your public relations efforts in the long run. Christina Kelly, as well as other PR authorities, can tell you that video is one of the more easily digestible forms of content out there, but only when it's made well. Try to focus on length, keeping your material concise so that it doesn't take up much of your audience's time. This is another great way to see success in public relations.

DON'T sell yourself short. The more that you work in a particular industry, producing strong results to boot, the more credibility you gain. As a long, it would be unwise to sell yourself short, especially when you think about how this can play into the perception others have of you. When you speak and write with confidence, people are more likely to pay attention. Otherwise, you run the risk of losing them, which can negatively impact your PR efforts.
