How Jamaican Charities Are Helping Suffering People

By Kenneth Morgan

There are three basic human needs. They are food, shelter, and clothing. Unfortunately, some people do not have access to some of these. There is a lot of suffering in the developing world. In some places, it is even hard to find clean water. As it is commonly said, water is life. No one can live for more than three days without water. Many people are dying of cholera because of drinking unclean water. Malaria is also a big epidemic in Jamaica. The government cannot always help in all situations. That is why Jamaican charities are needed.

Some charities are helping in eradicating poverty in Jamaica. Poverty is not permanent. It is possible for a poor person to become rich if he gets the right empowerment. There are charity organizations that deal with the issue of financial empowering people. Some poor people have great business ideas but they lack the funds to implement those ideas. Micro finance loans have transformed many lives.

Poverty is a major problem in the world. Even in developed countries like the United States, there are still people who are living in poverty. Poverty means living on less than a dollar a day. With many countries facing inflation, one dollar can accomplish very little. It is hard for a dollar to feed even one person for a day. Thus, for it to feed a family is impossible.

There is a segment of the Jamaican society that is wallowing in poverty. In most cases, poverty operates in a vicious circle that can be hard to break. However, with the right assistance, that circle will be broken. When one is born poor, he can easily pass the poverty to his children. Lack of jobs is increasing the level of poverty.

A charity may be dealing with the issue of education. Many children in Jamaica do not have access to education. Some families can simply not afford the cost of education. In some places, there are even no schools. Even if there are schools, such schools are in squalid conditions. Without good education, it is not possible to eradicate poverty from society.

For any society to prosper there has to be many educated people. Education has power. The roots of education are bitter but its fruits are sweet. A charity can be in the business of building schools. There are non governmental organizations that usually equip schools. Some schools even do not have the basics such desks and text books.

A healthy nation is a prosperous nation. The citizens of a country should be as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, in Jamaica, many people are dying of preventable diseases. There is a shortage of medical practitioners. There are charity organizations that are developing the health sector of Jamaica. Some doctors from developed countries usually visit developing countries and carry out charity work.

The hand that gives is the hand that receives. It is better to give than to receive. Those who have been blessed with plenty should consider those who are suffering and help them. One of the ways of helping is by contributing money to a reputable charity. Before making any contribution, there is the need to establish the reputation of an organization.
