For Powder Coating Denver Is Worth Visiting

By Christopher Fisher

At the present, powder coating is among the methods used to apply finishes on surfaces and objects. This method uses dry powder unlike traditional painting techniques which uses liquid paint to attain a finish. Usually, the process is complicated compared to painting, hence special equipment is needed. However, similar procedures are followed. When in search of professional powder coating Denver should be given priority.

The first step of the process is surface preparation. It involves smoothening and cleaning the surface if necessary. The next step is applying the powder on the surface. The final step is curing the applied powder to create the final finish. This last step is done in a specialized equipment known as an oven. For curing to occur heat must be available. During curing heat must be constantly and consistently applied in the oven throughout.

The final finish achieved is usually very smooth, consistent, and durable. Besides that, it is possible to achieve several different special effects with this method. Some of these special effects include dormant, translucent, multi-component, wrinkle, fine, and river vein. Each of these effects has a unique appearance and a specific procedure for achieving it.

To achieve the wrinkle effect, polyester, epoxy or urethane chemistry must be done. This effect in very hard to attain and novices normally have rough time working with it. Fortunately, a person can finally get it better and become perfect through practicing on sample surfaces. Novices usually encounter problems in two major stages. The two are the curing process and the application of the substrate.

One must ensure that the surface is properly cleaned and dried before the process can start. Consistency is very important when cleaning to ensure that all corners of the surface is thoroughly cleaned and dried. This is meant to prevent the formation of spots in the final finish. Curing must also be done under uniform temperatures in the oven. If some parts of the oven are hotter than others, the finish will be ruined.

Translucent finish is characterized by a variety of colors. For these finishes the powder is applied on surfaces but still permits some light to penetrate through. This enhances beauty that makes many customers love and prefers it. The translucent effect is attained when chemistries of urethane or polyester are applied. For polyester finishes, the exterior attained is less smooth in and there durability is shorter than urethane. Urethanes appear to be stickier and generally provide better flow and the look.

Unfortunately, translucent finish has one main disadvantage associated with it. The disadvantage is that it is much easier to achieve uneven pigmentation in the final work. This mostly occurs in objects with irregular shapes. Also, differences in thickness of about half a millimeter may occur. A base coat can also be used in the same manner undercoats are utilized in traditional liquid painting.

Base coats assist in attaining uniformity, especially when the surface coloring is un-uniform. May individuals prefer translucent finishes since they have impressive brightness that outweighs many other finishes. This brightness preferably suits well on surfaces made of stainless steel.
