Reduce Employee Theft With Business Camera Systems

By Mark Mahaffey

Even though nobody wants it to happen to them, the hard reality is that employees sometimes steal from their employers. And it is not an infrequent occurrence! Billions of dollars are lost each year because of employee theft. What makes it even worse is that this happens by people whom you trust - after all, you hired them!

One of the first steps you should take is to mount security signs or stickers at all the windows and doors of your business. This is to let potential thieves know that you are protected by a security system. Lots of robbers would rather not break into a business that has a security system, so these signs may keep you safe.

When it is time to close at night, employees are alone, so this is a prime time that they could steal either money or merchandise. It is smart to make sure there are always at least two people closing. In addition, put up some business camera system cameras so that you can record their activity.

Also, keep an eye on your employees and their personalities and habits. For example, have you noticed that one of you employees is a chronic liar? This is a warning sign that he might be prone to steal from you. What about substance abuse? If an employee abuses drugs or alcohol, this can also be a warning sign.

What about your rules and policies? Do any of your workers habitually break the rules? It may not even be a very serious rule, but if they break them, they may be more prone to stealing from you. By installing a business camera system, you can watch your workers carefully and find out if they are breaking the rules.

Pressure mats are another great idea. Burglars know that money is often inside cash registers, and so naturally they will try to break into them. You can put pressure mats around that area, though, so that you will be alerted if someone approaches the cash registers.
