Reputation Management Could Assist Microsoft

By Rob Sutter

As we enter a new generation of video game consoles, one has to wonder where the gaming masses will flock to. With the Nintendo Wii U currently out on the market, people seem to be anticipating the next title that will hit the console. In addition, some will wonder about the PlayStation 4 after the constant announcements made for it. However, I'm most concerned about Microsoft and the new Xbox. It's why I would recommend there be a good amount of reputation management seen.

The Xbox has been a heated topic in the gaming world and it has to do with the number of rumors associated with it. Apparently, there is going to be more talk about the system during an event held in May. However, the rumors which exist now are not ones that I would associate with a strong company and the proposed features almost seem like they're made to impede the enjoyment of the consumer. I don't think even the strongest of Microsoft fans are going to be able to support them.

I think one of the most imperative issues that I have with the console, if it's true, is that it must be connected to the Internet constantly. I am not going to say that everyone has a strong connection, either, because there could be times when it goes out through no fault of the gamer. Sometimes the signal just isn't that strong. Regardless of what the case may be, doesn't it seem like the most terrible decision to do this in order to avoid instances of piracy?

Even if these rumors aren't true, I still think that it would be in the best interest of Microsoft to take up the services of an agency like fishbat. More specifically, reputation management should be seen because, to me, the company does not have the greatest at the moment with the proposed rumors being brought up to the surface. What if these are actually true, though, and the new Xbox works off of these? Perhaps it'll be a matter of Sony and Nintendo trouncing Microsoft in the field of gaming.

It's possible that the Xbox could fail but is that necessarily a good thing for the marketplace? I think that any kind of industry operates better if there is competition to be had and the video game world is no exception to the rule. It pushes the workers to operate at much higher levels and these companies produce even better products in order to keep the fans as well. Without the right amount of competition to be had, I fear that the industry would become stagnant.
