Basic electrical theory and industry health and safety are among the areas covered in training. There are also several practical skills gained by learners during training. Electricians can work in a wide variety of areas. Part of their work involves installing, inspecting, and testing equipment to make sure that they are working well. If they find mistakes or faults, they fix them. Electrotechnical careers can be placed into various classes. Some of them include highway systems, maintenance, installation, machine repair and rewind and electrotechnical panel building electricians.

Those whose specialty is in installations install lighting, data network, power, and fire protection systems in shops, sports stadiums, offices, homes and other kinds of buildings. Maintenance specialists carry out routine check on systems to make sure that they are efficient and work safely. Basically, electricians work for around 37.5 hours in a week from Monday to Friday. There is the possibility of overtime and shifts that run at night. There is a lot of travelling involved in the job as one moves from one job to the next. Sometimes, these professionals spend several days or week s away from their homes. Because of frequent travelling, having a driving license is advisable.

The job may involve working with heights where one has to use scaffoldings, ladders and other tools to access point of work. Experience, employer, and level of education are some of the factors that determine salary earned. There are bodies concerned with regulating income in this industry. National set rates exist to cover accommodation costs, travel expenses, and travelling time.
