America is seeing unemployment rates as high as 9%. It is must drastic according to some economists that say the US government has it wrong. Is it possible that there is a demand for jobs out there and not enough of them to go around? The good news is that 17% of all medical billing and coding jobs go unfilled every single year because employees lack ICD-10 coding skills. If you want to keep your job or find a job in the medical billing field, it is best to go back to school and get your ICD-10 certification.

Medical billing salaries are starting to go up if you know ICD-10 coding. If you were making $35,000 last year, you could be looking at $50,000 + dollars this year if you know how to work with ICD-10. It is important to look at yourself and ask, "What is it that I like to do? What can I do in order to make a good living for myself?" Billing is a field in which people do not understand completely. Many people are beginning to read books on the topic and express it with their co-workers that do similar types of work.

Coders are finding out that they have a skill for working with codes because they have been doing it for so long. However, when you try to do something that doesn't work, it becomes a complete disaster. It is important to move step by step into an area of your life where you want to feel better. When you turn around and look back at your job, you have to say that it's worth keeping. Most medical billing jobs have 9 to 5 schedules and healthcare benefits. It is a wonderful experience to go to work every day liking what you do. The pay is also between $35,000 to $100,000 a year. If you live in cities like New Jersey, the pay tends to be on the higher side.

If you take a few courses in school, you will allow yourself to get more educated on the topic. Try to read books about the proper codes to use for which ailments. Which treatments work together? If you work in inpatient billing, make sure that you are up to date with familiar treatments that are happening. Are you documenting patient's records accordingly? Is there are new approach that you think should be taken in regards to coding? Share your opinions in online forums and study groups.

If you have a busy office, then it is best to talk with someone that knows about billing. You should ask them questions like, "What are they doing to ensure their success with ICD-10? Are there any training courses in town that you can take? Have you noticed any differences in the codes?" When you strike up conversations with people, you tend to learn more about the industry.
