Here Is Information On Screw Conveyors

By Diane Perry

Materials are usually moved from one location to another using mechanical devices known as conveyor systems. Conveyors are mainly used in production industries and other firms that handle bulk products. Less effort used in moving materials using conveyors makes them to be very popular. Using these systems helps one to save time and effort. This is what Screw Conveyors are all about.

Over the years, several different types of conveyor systems have been designed and are in use. The mode of working in the various types of conveying systems is different. As such, the suitability of a conveyor system in a given application usually depends on the kind of work it is meant to do. How the system works will determine in huge part how it is applied.

Despite the fact that different kinds of conveying systems are made differently, these systems share some common basic components. Most of the conveyor designs have a frame which provides support to rollers, wheels, and belts which move materials. Additionally, conveyor systems are powered through a number of ways. Among the mechanisms used to power them are gravity, using a motor, and manual means.

The kind of conveyor system to be used may be determined by the kind of material being moved. It can also be influenced by the working environment of the machine. One should have several factors properly considered before purchasing a conveyor system. For instance, one needs to consider the specifications of the system.

The first specification to consider should be the load capacity per unit length of the machine. This specification specifies the amount of load that should be transported on the system per unit length. Exceeding this capacity will usually damage the system. This value is usually indicated on the device or in the manufacturer manual that comes with it. Closely related to the load capacity per unit length is the maximum load capacity.

The rated speed also known as the belt speed, is another important specification that one should learn about. The system being discussed will determine the units that will be used to describe the rated speed. The speed is normally calculated in feet per minute when dealing with screw or belt conveyors. This speed normally specifies the material that can be moved over a certain duration of time

Amount of materials to be moved by screw conveying systems is usually specified in the manual too. The systems handle materials that are in powder form and other bulk loads. The amount is specified in terms of volume per unit time such as cubic feet per minute. The throughput value is also specified in other types of conveying systems. Bucket, vacuum, beam and vibrating conveying systems are some examples.

The frame configuration is another useful specification to know about when buying a conveyor. Frames can be designed to be curved, straight, or shaped like the letter Z. Where the drive mechanism is located on the system is also an important consideration. The drive mechanism may be located at the discharge end of the system or in the center. In rare cases, it may be found at the end where materials are fed into the system.
