Great travel destinations are ones that people can comfortably live and work in. These organizations have an impact on the state economy. One of the basic functions of a national tourism board is to conduct research on tourism in the state. This research points to the tourism products in the country that can be marketed to promote tourism. It also determines and elaborates how and where these products can be marketed. The information obtained from this research helps the institution set up a plan that will promote tourism within the state.

This institution is mandated to give up-to-date information to tourists and also conduct promotions. It has the responsibility of providing correct information about anything within the country to tourists. It encourages residents in the country to embrace tourism and interact well with the foreign tourists. In order to promote tourism, it educates other government agencies on importance and benefits of tourism. This makes the agencies make decisions that favor and promote tourism.

Regularizing restaurants and lodging standards is a task that should be done successfully. Lodgings should follow the set rules and regulations when dealing with tourists. They should be built in accordance with the standards and technology required. Quality services must be offered to tourists to make sure they feel comfortable and secure within the areas. This institution acts as a watchdog for the government to ensure that all rules that govern restaurants are followed.

Publicity and good international relations are great tools in promoting tourism in a state. The institution sets up offices abroad and sends ambassadors who will improve relationships between the countries. It links up with similar organizations in neighboring countries to improve regional tourism. Collaborating with foreign travel agencies also promotes tourism and gives the country a good image. Publicity is done in many different ways including distribution of printed materials that pass a specific message.

A majority of the travel agencies in most states are privately owned. As such, there is a need for the institution to control the activities of these agents. This is done to ensure that tourists receive quality service and are always protected. The institution makes sure that the travel regulations set to govern the agencies are followed. These private agencies are widely utilized by citizens and if they do not offer appropriate services, the tourism sector is bound to fall.

There are selected areas of the state that can attract tourists but have not yet been developed. The organization is supposed to identify these areas, conduct surveys on how they can be developed without excess expenditure. After development, these areas must be well maintained and protected to ensure they keep attracting more and more tourists.

The tourism sector has judicial and technical areas that arise from time to time. Technical problems mostly involve infrastructure where you find that some areas important to tourists are not accessible. Or they are not built in line with the current technology. Judicial problems revolve around the administration of laws.
