Apply Product Management Framework Concepts In Your Factory

By James Baker

In the old days this creature called man lived longer lives. Life then was not so regimented compared to the present. Whereas primitive men searched for food with adventure and gusto, modern man is so burdened that the face can sometimes look morbid. Quotas must be achieved, zero downtime is must, and product defects must be minimized. All these can make a manager grow old overnight but not if product management framework is applied.

Modern housing units are found in residential areas assigned by government for residential purposes. Homeowners flock here after working in jobs every day. The abode is home to a family that eats together and share experiences. Occupants may vary but almost all are consumers of products manufactured in plants located in industrial zones.

The marketplace is a sector were people congregate to acquire items that are need by the family. Food, toiletries, toys. The wet market is where fish and vegetables abound and is a haven for chefs and cooks. Grocers display goods for sale. People do the buying and selling here in what is known as the commercial estate.

The manufacturing zone is the land where manufacturing facilities are set up. An assembly line of varying types and lengths is ever present as are machines and equipment that cannot run with the labor force to operate it. Consumer goods emanate from this place and picked up by trucks for delivery.

Raw materials are needed to make consumer goods. These often come from nature as raw and unprocessed. It becomes an input in the process of manufacturing an item in whatever form it could be and in large quantities. This is true regardless of whether it is a mineral ore or a plant or animal part.

The main beneficiary of people activity is the economy. The bigger the economy, the better it will benefit the population. The faster it grows the more funds become available to government through taxation. The more taxes the government collects, the more infrastructure projects are implemented. In the end the people get better public service and facilities.

Emerging new technologies make processes more reliable and efficient. Downtime is anathema to production managers as it will increase the cost. Delay in production means less end product coming off the assembly lines. Sound maintenance schedules and spare parts inventory is practiced along with automation and computerization.

The risks of pollution are ever present in the form of industrial waste. Soil, water, air contamination is the result of industrialization. Preventive and corrective measure seems not enough at the rate plants are spewing out chemical wastes. Future generations will definitely have a huge problem to contend with. The world has been degraded at a very rapid pace since the start of industrial age.

No amount of profit is enough to repair the damage the various industries have wrought on the environment. Waterways have become dangerous as waste chemical get into it. Smog dominates the air as coal fired machines churn. Even the land becomes barren because of industrial waste. Government should enforce stricter laws to regulate waste products.
