Act as quickly as possible to remove the grease from the carpet. The most important thing you can do is act as quickly as possible once you realize grease has gotten on your carpet. The sooner you act, the more likely you are to remove the grease quickly and easily, before it has a chance to set or get spread around, accidentally.

Usually made of either plastic or metal, the smaller versions for the home should be cleaned on a regular basis, especially if you do a lot of cooking with greasy food, mostly because of the potential for bacteria growing within the drain and pipes.

All you need to do is sprinkle some of the powder on the oil spot, and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. Then, you can easily scrape or vacuum up the powder, along with a lot of the oil. (You may need to do this a couple of times if there was a lot of oils until no more seems to be soaked up by the powder.)

The best thing -- it's easy to use! Just insert it into your drains, and it does it's clean-up work basically on autopilot. But will it fit? It's designed to fit most catch basins, so chances are excellent that it will fit yours as well.

There are a few different types of oil interceptors. There are units that fit inside 50-gallon tanks, and there are bigger units that that are in large in-ground tanks which are normally about 1000 gallons. The larger units are designed for a high volume of waste. There are also 'stainless steel filtration oil trap under sink' units.

Continue dipping in the solution until the oil has been completely removed. This will probably remove some of the dirt, but some residue will remain. Wipe the surface with a fresh, lukewarm water-rinsed rag to remove the remaining residue. Do a second pass of cleaning by wiping it again with a clean, dry rag. Repeat for every greasy part of the kitchen.

Remove the solvent from the carpet, and then let it dry thoroughly. After removing the oil spot you will need to blot at the carpet with water, to remove as much of the dry cleaning solvent as possible. Then, let the carpet dry thoroughly for 24-48 hours. To aid in this process you may want to have fans blowing on the carpet, or lay a heavy object onto a cloth over the damp carpet, to help wick up moisture from the carpet into the cloth.
