Activities At The Port Of Albany Scrap

By Essie Osborn

Friendly prices are always a motivator in any business. At the port of Albany scrap yards, competition exists between the different dealers providing a suitable floor for business. From old cars to shell casings, anything known as metal will sell at a good price in these yards. This being the main commercial activity in the area, the history of the place has now become sealed as a scrap metal depot.

A good number of us will mention the word fragments in our conversations without necessarily understanding what it means. For dealers at the port, fragments means, tin, brass, steel, aluminum, buses, iron among others. These are basically waste materials made of different metals. You would be amazed at what suppliers are willing to sell as parts to make an extra income.

Going through the fragment at the yard, a lot of rather useful stuff is likely to be found. You may even be lucky enough to find something that may be considered antique. No matter how tempting it may be, it would be unethical and even illegal to take stuff outside the yard. It is a common policy that whatever goes in as fragments must go out as a fragment.

When the cars are crashed, they are later shipped to another location. The plastic, glass and metal are separated and shipped to various mills and refiners for recycling in the different parts of the country.

The law of supply clearly and elaborately explains the behavior of the consumer when the prices of commodities in the market go up. It is expected that supply will increase on a large scale if the prices are supplier friendly. This has been one of the main factors that has greatly encouraged the growth of yards and a number of dealers in the port.

Whether looking to sell ferrous or non ferrous metals, the port is the place to go. With horsepower metal shredders varying in power capacity, the dealers are now envisioning exporting these fragment metals to the foreign countries. This is because this powerful technology is capable of crashing more pieces than can be handled by the market in the United States.

It is a normal procedure to have your company registered and licensed by the local government. So is the case with all the dealers in the port. The payments for transactions are usually made in cash form. Changing times have led the companies to engage in other income generating activities such as picking and dropping services, truck, rail car, ship and vessel loading.

As the global environmental activists speak up to ensure that going green is a social responsibility of everyone, the dealers at the bay are also doing their part to keep the environment clean. This means controlling their carbon emissions, proper energy use and observing water generation and consumption.

Apart from the above discussed effects, the yards have become an important part of the economy. This is because they have become a key employer, a tax payer to the government, a supplier of raw materials to the manufacturing companies and a tourist attraction site. The effect spins and affects not just the economy but also the country.
