Tips To Help You Improve Fire Security In San Diego

By Mark Mahaffey

In 2011, as reported by the National Fire Protection Association, there were over one million fires in the United States. As a result, over 3,000 people died and over 17,000 people were injured. Because of the very real threat to both individuals and organizations, more and more organizations are installing fire alarms.

There are several components that are necessary if you are going to have an effective fire security in San Diego. At the top of the list is the ability of the system to quickly notify people that a fire has started. This can be done in a number of ways such as strobe lights (for those people who are not able to hear well) or loud alarms that sound throughout the structure. The main goal is for everyone to get out of the building as quickly as possible.

But alerting occupants that a fire is underway is just one of the ways that a to improve fire security in San Diego. There are other features that these systems can provide, such as mapping out where the fire is located within the building. With this information, fire fighters can be more efficient at their jobs.

The intelligence of smoke detectors has grown as well. For example, the technology now exists that enables some detectors to be able to distinguish between the particles of smoke and the particles within dust and steam. This can decrease the number of false alarms that happen in both homes and businesses. Not only does this cut down on the annoyance of such false alarms, but it can also save money.

A networked fire alarm system can not only warn of the fire, it can even slow its progression. Today's integrated approach provides connection between the fire alarm system, building management system and access control system that can allow for quicker shutdown of critical systems that can potentially increase the spread of fire.

Each of these benefits (the ability to warn occupants quickly, the ability to pinpoint exactly where the fire is and the ability to slow down the spread of the fire) are valuable in both home and business security systems. As you create your fire security in San Diego, keep these important features in mind.
